It’s expected to be a below-normal hurricane season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts there is a 55 per cent chance of a below-normal season, a 35 per cent chance of a near-normal season and a 10 per cent chance of an above-normal season. Hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th. The NOAA expects there to be between eight and 14 named storms, three to six hurricanes and one to three major hurricanes in the North Atlantic. The agency says the prediction is based on the expected development and strengthening of El Niño in the Pacific Ocean.
